Download an item
- Open a track, album, playlist, or book’s menu and choose the download option.
- Open Downloads to check progress. Downloads may queue behind another transfer.
- Wait for the download to finish before going offline.
Play downloaded items
- Open Downloads, or choose Downloads from the library selector.
- Browse downloaded artists, authors, albums, or books. Use Search within Downloads to find an item.
- Choose a completed download to play it.
Retry, cancel, or remove
Open a download’s menu to cancel it or retry a failed transfer. Queued and unfinished downloads are not ready for offline playback.
Choose Remove Download for one item or Remove Downloads for a group. This frees device storage without deleting the originals from Plex.
Download management also shows storage use and lets you refresh saved metadata.
Set download quality and data use
- Open Settings → Playback and find the Downloads section.
- Choose the quality for new downloads.
- Check whether Downloads on Cellular is enabled before starting a large transfer away from Wi-Fi.
Prefer saved audio when online
- Open Settings → Playback → Downloaded Playback.
- Choose Prefer Downloads to play saved audio when available. Choose Stream Online to prefer streaming while connected.
Download on each device
Downloads stay on the device where you save them. Check Downloads on each iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch you plan to use.
Settings sync does not copy audio files. Download on the Watch itself before leaving your iPhone behind.
